Regional edge colocation provider, Proximity Data Centers, has added a new facility to its portfolio.
Located in central Birmingham, UK (pictured), the Proximity Edge 8 offers 6MW IT power with the potential to increase it to 12MW. The 63,055 sq ft facility is built and accredited to The Uptime Institute Tier 3 specifications and has capacity for up to 2,000 racks in three separate data halls.
John Hall, MD for colocation at Proximity Data Centers said: “Located midway between London and Manchester, our new Birmingham edge colocation facility will serve as an ideal low latency communications hub for organizations such as hyperscales, CDNs and gaming providers looking to bring data, services and content closer to users around the country – while optimizing data transit efficiency and costs. “
Built and accredited to The Uptime Institute Tier 3 specifications, the secure and resilient 63,055 sq ft facility has capacity for up to 2,000 racks in three separate data halls.
The facility is close to the new HS2 train station and BBC campus, offering connections to all the major fiber networks that cross the UK, including BT, ITS, Lumen, Virgin and Zayo, as well as various regional fiber providers.
Proximity said it expects the Edge 8 will attract hyperscales, CDNs and game providers looking for both high-quality and super-connected edge colocation facilities, as well as businesses.
Hall continued: “Businesses and managed cloud providers in the Birmingham metropolitan area will also benefit from the wide range of connectivity options available from both large providers as well as local connectivity providers. Proximity Edge 8 will help them increase the competitive advantage of connections with low latency and high speed bandwidth to ensure that their data and applications always respond highly to users. ”
Proximity Edge 8 adds to Proximity’s UK network of interconnected regional border data centers, which include locations in Bridgend, Swindon, Nottingham, Rugby, Liverpool, Chester Gates and Wakefield. Zayo has worked with the company to provide fiber connectivity to some of these sites.
The company expects to have 20 spaces available within the next 12 months – more than double the current number – and all are planned to be close to major urban areas.
