The Yahoo Finance team is seeking a seasoned and strategic Senior Editor to lead a team of reporters covering the biggest stories shaping markets, industries, and the economy. This leadership role is ideal for an experienced editor with sharp news judgment, a passion for financial news, and a proven ability to guide fast-paced, high-impact coverage. Responsibilities
- Work in our New York City office at least three days per week
- Lead a team of reporters to move quickly covering stories related to public and private companies, specific industry sectors, and other topics relevant to investors
- Edit breaking news stories and planned coverage
- Use strong news judgment to assign stories and approve or reject pitches
- Bring a competitive spirit to be fast and accurate on timely stories
- Communicate story ideas across the newsroom to coordinate coverage with video, graphics, social, and newsletter teams
- Contribute to data viz projects on beats under purview
- Leverage data to improve the coverage of individual reporters
- Write original content as needed
Required Qualifications
- At least 7 years experience working as an editor at a national news organization
- People management experience
- Comprehensive understanding of editorial best practices and style guides
- Strong framing and headline writing skills
- Strong communication skills
- Strong copy editing skills
- Strong news judgment and an ability to make real-time decisions
- Track record of success in a fast-paced newsroom
- Deep experience with and a passion for financial news
- Ability to work in person in our New York City office at least three days per week and as coverage needs require
