Wax replica of Sinead O’Connor withdrawn by Dublin museum after criticism of ‘hideous’ likeness | Ents & Arts News

Sometimes nothing compares to the real thing, as Dublin’s wax museum discovered after unveiling a figure of Irish singer Sinead O’Connor.

Many people reacted with shock when the wax statue was unveiled on Thursday, leading the museum staff to decide to remove the replica.

The team admitted Friday that it “could do better” and said it would create a “more accurate representation.”

After the decision was announced, O’Connor’s brother Joseph O’Connor told RTE Radio he was “shocked” when he first saw the effigy online and that it “didn’t look like him at all”.

“It was nothing like him and I found it hideous,” he added.

O’Connor had said that if people wanted to honour her memory, they should erect a statue of her in Dublin.

“We are committed to creating a new wax figure”

In a statement, the National Wax Museum Plus in Dublin said in response to public comments: “We recognise that the current performance did not meet our high standards or the expectations of Sinead’s dedicated fans.

“We have listened carefully to the feedback and agree that the figurine does not fully capture Sinead’s unique presence and essence as we intended.”

The museum added: “Sinead O’Connor’s impact on Ireland and the global music community is immeasurable, and our aim has always been to honour her in the most appropriate and respectful way.

“We deeply appreciate the public’s love for Sinead and share their admiration for her remarkable career and contributions.

“With this in mind, we are committed to creating a new wax figure that better reflects the true spirit and iconic image of Sinead O’Connor.

“Our team of skilled artists will begin this project immediately, ensuring that every detail is meticulously crafted to appropriately celebrate his legacy.

“We express our gratitude to all those who have provided feedback and assure you that your voices are heard.

“We look forward to unveiling a new figurine that truly honors Sinead O’Connor and her extraordinary impact.”

O’Connor died of natural causes at his home in south-east London last year, aged 56.
