Firefighters battle a blaze at a downtown takeaway restaurant.

Crews are currently on scene at the incident at Asian Wok, St Mary’s Precinct, Church Street in Chirk.




They told people to stay away from the area.

A Go Fund Me financing The fundraiser has been launched. Kylie Hall said: “As most of you will have sadly seen, Asian wok in Chirk was hit by a devastating fire this evening 26/07/2024 which completely gutted the roof area as seen in the photo above. Sadly the damage to the shop is unknown at this time but the cost of rebuilding and reopening it will sadly cost a fortune. Even if it’s just a pound, please help in any way you can and if you can’t donate, please share.”

Fire Department Update

North Wales Fire Brigade said: “Four crews, the aerial platform, incident command unit and social care unit are currently on scene responding to a fire in the St Mary’s, Church Street area of ​​Chirk. The initial call was received at 6.49pm and we are asking everyone to stay away from the area.”

‘My heart breaks for them’

Social media pages were flooded with messages of support for the owners and staff.

One person said: “I’m so glad no one got hurt, my heart breaks for them all.”

Another added: “I am so sad that my prayers are with the family that they can get back to business as soon as possible and I pray that the Chirk community will come together to support the family. I know that when I lost my home in a fire in 2007, the community I lived in on Merseyside helped me get back on my feet and get back to normality.”

Everything is fine and safe

Jason Williams, a local resident, said everyone had escaped safely from the takeaway restaurant. He added that no one was injured but the staff were in shock.

“Avoid the area”

Police have issued a message asking drivers and other members of the public to avoid the area.

A spokesperson said: “North Wales Police are advising motorists and the public to avoid Church Street in Chirk due to an incident. Please consider alternative routes when travelling and avoid the area whilst emergency services attend.”
