Business Insider editor in chief Jamie Heller sent out the following on Thursday:
I’m thrilled to announce that Julie Zeveloff West has been promoted to Director of Editorial Product Strategy. In this crucial role, Julie will direct newsroom innovation — working with editorial and across our company to build the tools, workflows, and products that keep Business Insider delighting our audience and supporting our journalists.
Julie joined BI in 2010 and has quite literally done almost every job in the newsroom: lifestyle blogger, social video producer, Life division chief, interim EIC, and—most recently—our first editorial chief of staff. That breadth gives her rare insight into how our journalism, audience, and technology intersect.
Over the past year we’ve launched new newsletters, piloted AI-powered workflows, upgraded internal systems, and deepened video/web collaboration. Julie has been at the center of all of it, and she’ll now lead a powerhouse team to accelerate what’s working and invent what’s next. The groups that will continue to report to her and their leaders are: Creative, Bryan Erickson; Special Projects & AI, Julia Hood; Operations, Kate Ortega; and Audience, Lisa Ryan.
Julie will also partner closely with Chief Product Officer Jeff Rabb and Chief Technology Officer Harry Hope to innovate on our systems and engage our audience.
A Cornell and Columbia School of Journalism graduate, Julie lives in Manhattan with her husband, Scott, and their two young children. She has been a trusted sounding board to so many in our newsroom day to day, year to year. I’ve been fortunate to have Julie as my chief of staff since my arrival. I can’t wait to see what she accomplishes in this next chapter.
