When it is fully operational the airport has a team of more than 6,000 staff to help people reach their destinations and make sure passengers have a good experience on the road.

Check-in staff, airport security and cabin crew are a familiar sight for any holidaymaker – but there are scores of people behind the scenes doing their bit to ensure the airport runs smoothly.

Airport controller

Reporting to the senior controller, the airport controller will be responsible for the planning and operation of the processes and facilities of areas within the airport.

The worker will be responsible for allocating aircraft parking stands and utilizing safe systems of work provided and maintained by the airfield management team.

The role also involves operating the centralized communications hub, ensuring that the airport control center is aware of any airside or landside operational issues affecting the performance of the airport.

Main duties include operating in-house systems like door controls, CCTV and flight information to ensure that passenger flows are maintained and on time departures are achieved.

Basis: Full time

Salary: £ 34,509 per annum

Payroll co-ordinator

Reporting to the payroll manager and working as an integral member of the airport HR team, the payroll co-ordinator will support the airport’s monthly payroll activities.

The employee will also proactively support the HR team in the delivery of the people strategy for the airport.

The role’s main responsibility will be to work closely with the payroll manager to process monthly payrolls – so previous payroll admin experience would be highly desirable, as well as some general HR experience.

Key duties include accurately inputting monthly payroll and benefit information within agreed timescales, assisting with payroll calculations, preparing and submitting payroll reports and answering calls, emails and face-to-face inquiries from employees regarding their pay.

Basis: Part time

Salary: £ 23,365 per annum

Terminal operations co-ordinator

The role of the terminal operations co-ordinator role is to act as the facilitator and provide support to the terminal operations team.

Providing support with the contract administration, terminal appearance, customer service, communications, and general office support are all key parts of the role.

The post holder will ensure that health and safety is at the forefront of the terminal operations ethos.

Main duties include acting as the co-ordinator for the appearance of the terminal, including tracking jobs through the CMMS system and carrying out weekly terminal audits with particular focus on passenger journeys.

They also include raising task and purchase orders as well as budgetary administration and future budget planning, plus administering the ID center requirements for airport security passes.

Basis: Full time

Salary: £ 22,907 per annum

Grounds maintenance technician

The primary focus of this interesting role is to carry out grounds and habitat maintenance activities to the areas on and around the airport.

Much of the work is outdoors and involves manual handling and operation of equipment, for which full training is provided.

This important work focuses on habitat and grounds upkeep and preservation in line with regulatory and local habitat and wildlife requirements.

The role embraces various general maintenance activities, within an organization which offers a great career opportunity for the right person.

Reporting to the grounds maintenance supervisor, this work includes summer and winter operational support functions.

The employee will be required to undertake training to operate wide range of vehicles, equipment and plant associated with agricultural, maintenance and snow clearing work.

Resource planner

The resource planner is responsible for the creation and administration of team rosters within the terminal operations department.

Reporting to the resource manager, the worker will work closely with the wider capacity team to translate airline schedules into passenger demand profiles and to use these within the rostering system.

Key duties include building seasonal rosters and producing individual staff rosters, ensuring that any gaps in staff provision are filled, and analyzing and presenting relevant data to support the resource requirements within the operational budgets.

Aviation security officer

The aviation security officer will be responsible to the head of security, performing aviation security duties at Birmingham Airport.

This role reflects the exceptional customer service skills required to ensure that passengers, staff and crew have a safe, secure and efficient passage within an efficient and friendly environment.

Main responsibilities include controlling access into restricted areas of the airport, carrying out security ID and boarding card checks, responding to emergency incidents following the agreed procedures, and carrying out escort duties including special events when required.

The person will also advise passengers, staff and crew on the correct presentation of persons and items carried to ensure people are fully prepared for security screening, and also undertake foot patrols of operational areas and designated routes.
