The £ 500 luxury cocktail you can buy on Broad Street that only two people have ever ordered

A luxury cocktail costing £ 500 has hit the headlines after a Hollywood actor reportedly ordered it during a visit to a Birmingham restaurant. The Jewel of Varanasi is available from Varanasi off Broad Street.

Pirates of the Caribbean star Johnny Depp is said to have ordered the decadent sounding drink while at the Broad Street eatery on Sunday evening. According to reports, Depp racked up a £ 50,000 bill during his visit.

And it is said he ordered the most expensive cocktail on the restaurant’s menu, The Jewel of Varanasi. It’s on the menu for anyone to order, but you must give 24 hours notice as it’s listed as a ‘premium drink’.

However the restaurant’s operations manager, Mo Hussain, told BirminghamLive that only one other person had ordered the drink before.

It includes 500 Hennessy Paradis Imperial, Grand Marnier, Quail Egg Whites, seeds from a Vanilla Pod, Lemongrass Syrup, 24ct Gold Leaf and Edible Flowers.

Mr Hussain said: “From memory I think we have only ever had one person order the £ 500 cocktail, so if Johnny did order that he would only be the second person to do so.”

Depp was in town to perform alongside his long time friend Jeff Beck at the Symphony Hall on Monday night. He was also mobbed by excited fans as he left the city’s Grand Hotel on Monday afternoon. Depp left the hotel through the Church Street entrance shortly before 3pm to the delight of fans who had been waiting there in huge crowds – some since 9.30am.

The actor reportedly spent £ 50,000 on Varanasi. According to reports, Depp hired out the eatery at around £ 25,000 – £ 30,000, and left a “large tip”. Reports suggest he enjoyed rose champagne and the wine list, with some bottles fetching up to £ 1,200.
