Snow appears to be slowing down the recovery of the Marshall Fire

BOULDER COUNTY, Colorado (KDVR) – Snow appears to be taking a heavy toll on evacuation clearance efforts. The Colorado National Guard is in place to ensure the safety of homeowners who want to return to their property.

“The snow can be positive and an obstacle,” said Rocco Snart, planning chief of the Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control.

“The roads are slow right now,” Snart said. “You may stumble across dangers that you might have seen if there was no snow on it.”

In certain evacuation areas, such as subdivisions along Boulder Rd., Colorado National Guard members serve as security around the perimeter.

Guard members tell us that construction workers are starting to work in some broken subdivisions. The National Guard could keep watch over some perimeters for up to seven days. It is unknown at this time what he will do after leaving the post.

“Wind-driven fires in Colorado are the worst you can find,” Snart said.
