The Sixth Reel Traler

“It’s at the top of my list of lost films that I would, without conscience, kill to see.” Wolfe Video has revealed a new official US trailer for an indie comedy film titled The Sixth Reel, from filmmakers Carl Andress & Charles Busch. This indie screwball comedy caper from NYC originally premiered in 2021 but hasn’t been released until now – available to watch this fall. A down-on-his-luck movie memorabilia collector discovers a legendary lost film and becomes entangled in an outrageous adventure to deliver it to the right hands before it is lost forever. The film is co-written and co-directed by drag legend Charles Busch and the acclaimed American director Carl Andress. The Sixth Reel stars Charles Busch, Julie Halston, André De Shields, and Patrick Page, with Tim Daly and Margaret Cho. This looks a bit too low budget and a bit too kooky for my tastes, but also seems like it might be strangely entertaining to watch. Worth a look if you’re curious.

Here’s the official trailer (+ poster) for Carl Andress & Charles Busch’s The Sixth Reel from YouTube:

The Sixth Reel Poster

When the death of a close friend unearths the long-thought lost final reel of a classic undiscovered film, Jimmy (Charles Busch) a down-on-his-luck movie collector and his social circle of obsessive collectors each concoct wild, underhanded schemes to cash in on a big sale of the film. The Sixth Reel is co-directed and co-written by the filmmakers Carl Andress & Charles Busch (A Very Serious Person), both actors making their proper feature directorial debut together. It’s produced by Jamie Buckner, Ash Christian, Alex Peace. This initially premiered at 2021 Outfest Los Angeles a few years ago. Wolfe Video will finally debut Andress & Busch’s comedy film The Sixth Reel in select US theaters (at one cinema in NYC only) starting September 22nd, 2023 this fall, followed by a VOD release soon after. Is anyone interested in watching?
