SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – Two test operators were issued subpoenas Thursday as part of an investigation by San Francisco officials into allegedly unlicensed sites that pop up in the city and perform COVID tests.
In a press release, City Attorney David Chiu said he issued subpoenas to Community Wellness America, Inc. and Crestview Clinical Laboratory, LLC.

Earlier this month, individuals representing Community Wellness America, Inc. were reported to be offering COVID tests on public property in San Francisco.
It is unclear whether the individuals manning the pop-up test operation had the adequate training to perform COVID tests, or what they did with the information and samples they collected.

“Protecting the integrity of our COVID test operations is crucial as we struggle with an increase in COVID cases,” Chiu said. “We can not allow rogue players to exploit this Omicron increase for profit. We will get to the bottom of this and ensure that any bad players are held accountable.”
In addition to a number of properly authorized private operators, test sites affiliated with the San Francisco Department of Public Health and major health systems account for more than 60 percent of the tests administered daily in the city.

Members of the public who needed a COVID test were encouraged to first contact their healthcare provider to get a test if they have one, and then explore the possibilities of SFDPH-affiliated test sites. For a list of test sites in San Francisco, go to: sf.gov/getttested
