Priti Patel apologizes over ‘frustrating’ visa delays for Ukrainian refugees | News

Priti Patel has apologized for visa delays as the latest figures revealed only 1,200 refugees have arrived in the UK under the Homes for Ukraine scheme.

They represent only a tenth of the 12,500 visas granted under the scheme three weeks after it was launched.

A further 31,000 Ukrainians are waiting for their visa to be granted by the Home Office having completed their forms with their UK hosts. The backlog has increased by more than 5,000 over the past week, while the weekly rate of visas issued has fallen by 2,000 despite ministers promising to streamline the process.

Under the separate family scheme, a little over a third of the 28,500 Ukrainians issued visas have arrived.

In total, only 12,000 Ukrainian refugees have arrived
