Porn sites to check ages or face fines | News

Pornographers face multimillion-pound fines if they do not have an age-verification system on their website under new laws designed to stop children accessing adult content.

The government has announced that it is adding a new requirement to the forthcoming Online Safety Bill stating that any website that publishes pornography will need to have “robust checks” in place to ensure that their users are over 18.

The government has drawn up the bill to make the UK the safest place in the world to be online, by ensuring social media platforms and many other websites show a “duty of care” to its users. It is set to be bought before parliament next month but is not expected to be made into law until 2023.
