A popular Italian restaurant In Birmingham loved by the Queen His son announced that they would be closing permanently next month after seven years. Laghi’s Deli, on Islington Row Middleway, will close its doors after Saturday, August 10.
They shared a heartbreaking statement on social media on Saturday night (July 14) and called it “an honour to be part of the Brummie indie scene amongst some of the greatest”.
It was only at the beginning of this year that Laghi’s impressed food writer Tom Parker Bowles, son of Queen Camillawho gave it a glowing review in the Mail on Sunday’s You magazine.

Tom said Laghi’s pasta was “seriously as good as you’ll find at restaurants like The River Cafe, Riva, Luca and Locanda Locatelli,” three highly-rated London restaurants. He added that Birmingham The options are “a fraction of the price” of those establishments.
“Once again Birmingham impresses,” he wrote of Laghi. “Another true Brummie beauty.”

The full message on Laghi’s Deli’s social media reads: “A message from Luca and the Laghi’s team… It is with great regret that we announce that after more than seven years of Laghi’s, we have made the incredibly difficult decision to close our doors.
“We have been battling the freelance storm for some time now, and between the greatly increased overheads and the current climate, we are no longer able to continue. Our last service will be on Saturday 10th August, and our bookings are open until then, so we would love to see you, one last time.
“Whether you’ve joined us recently for our collaborations, or since day one of being Laghi’s Deli, we can’t thank you enough for your continued support. It’s truly been an hour to be a part of the Brummie indie scene amongst some of the greatest. Big Love – Laghi’s x.”
The statement prompted dozens of comments from heartbroken customers. Yvonne wrote: “I’m so sorry, it’s a lovely place.” Ashley wrote: “I’m so sorry. The food is always great and the hospitality is wonderful.”
Darren commented: “It’s so sad, when I was at home it was the place I felt comfortable. I wish you all the best and hope you open up somewhere else.”
Zoe posted: “I’m so sorry to hear this. I know how much hard work, passion and dedication, not to mention blood, sweat and tears, went into this project.”
Juliette added: “I am so sorry to hear that. You are unique in Brum and I have enjoyed visiting you over the years for dinner, lunch and coffee. I will especially miss having an Aperol Spritz while I peruse the menu! You will be missed. Good luck with your future endeavours.”
