Mother stabbed to death while children at school

olice have launched a murder hunt after a mother was stabbed to death in Bethnal Green, east London, while her children were at school.

The alarm was raised at 4.06pm on Thursday after the 40-year-old mother failed to pick her children up from school, the Metropolitan Police said in a statement.

Officers then attended an address on Globe Road where they found the woman with stab injuries.

Despite the best efforts of the London Ambulance Service, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

She has yet to be formally identified, although her next of kin may have been informed and a post-mortem examination will take place on Saturday.

Police added no arrests have been made and a crime scene remains in place at the address.

Detective Chief Inspector Laurence Smith, leading the investigation, said it was “heartbreaking” that “yet another” woman has been killed.

“A dedicated team of officers is working around the clock to trace the person responsible for this and my thoughts are with this woman’s family as they come to terms with their tragic loss,” she said.

“It is heartbreaking that yet another woman has been killed. All women and girls have the right to feel safe, at any time, day or night, in public or at home, and we will do everything we can to find those responsible for this. ”

One neighbor said the woman had lived there for 10 years, adding: “She was a nice lady, no problems. She had a partner and an ex partner also visited. We are in complete shock. ”

A father of four, 33, said: “She has children in reception and year with my kids.

“I saw two teachers from the school knocking on the door with no answer. Then the police came and bashed in the door. When I found out what happened I was devastated. There is a deep sadness in my heart. My kids are worried about their friends who have lost their mother, it’s a tragedy. ”

A resident, on Friday, said: “I heard shouting and what sounded like desperate screaming then complete silence. There were then so many police everywhere shortly after. It was truly shocking. I can not believe a woman has died we are a close community here and our prayers are with the woman’s family. ”

Another said: “There was some noise coming from the block, like an argument but to be honest it’s normal around here. I wondered what had happened when I saw the police arrived, there seemed to be dozens of them.

“We are devastated to think one of our neighbors has died in this way.”

The death comes among a series of stabbing incidents in the capital on Thursday, including a man who was found with stab wounds at the Asda Superstore in Forty Lane, Wembley.

The man, in his 20s, was assessed as suffering from life-threatening wounds shortly after 5.30pm and was rushed to hospital.

Meanwhile, video emerged on social media showing a fight outside Tooting Broadway Tube Station.

When police attended, at 3.12pm, they could not find any victims of the fight.

However, a man, aged in his 30s, was later presented to hospital with a non-life threatening stab wound, which officers believe was linked to the incident outside the station.

Separately, a 17-year-old boy was also taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries after an incident in Islington’s Northampton Park.

He was later arrested on suspicion of being in possession of an offensive weapon.
