An accident on the M6 Northbound caused traffic to be temporarily held near junction 16 (Stoke-on-Trent / Crewe) at around 12:30 pm. Three lanes across both Northbound and Southbound carriageways were blocked and there were ‘severe’ delays.
Two lanes were closed on the M6 Northbound and one lane was closed on the M6 Southbound. Congestion traveled to Keele Services and traffic cameras showed long delays at J17 for Sandbach.
Traffic tailed as far as ten miles, with delays of up to one hour 40 minutes. The incident cleared just before 3pm.

Inrix traffic analysis software reports: “Long delays and all traffic being temporarily held due to traffic problem on M6 Northbound before J16 A500 (Stoke-On-Trent / Crewe). Cameras can see no traffic coming through, but not what the problem is. Solid queues in both directions. “
