Loganair flight to Glasgow diverted to Aberdeen after mid-air emergency

A flight to Glasgow was forced to divert to Aberdeen after the plane suffered a mid-air emergency.

Passengers on board the Loganair flight from Sumburgh Airport in Shetland were due to land in Glasgow after 1.30pm on Tuesday, but the flight was diverted to Aberdeen less than an hour into the journey.

FlightRadar data showed the ATR 42-600 aircraft was circling off Stonehaven and performing a Sqwauking 7700 classed as an emergency before landing.

Firefighters sent three trucks to the scene where no casualties were reported.

Loganair, which operated flight LM436, said a precautionary landing was made following a technical problem.

A Loganair spokesperson said: “We can confirm that flight LM436 from Sumburgh to Glasgow has been diverted to Aberdeen for a precautionary landing following a technical issue.

“The safety and well-being of our customers and crew are of the utmost importance to us.

“Customers have been flown to Glasgow on another plane and we thank them for their patience.”

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 1.13pm on Tuesday 23 July to assist our partners at Aberdeen Airport, Aberdeen.

“The operations control mobilized three fire-fighting vehicles to the scene as a precautionary measure.

“There were no casualties and the crews left after securing the area.”
