Live – firefighters tackling massive farm blaze in North Devon

Fire crews from all over Devon have rushed to the scene of an out-of-control blaze at a barn on a farm in Fishleigh Barton near Umberleigh tonight. The fire started in a caravan on a farm and quickly spread to a barn containing potentially hazardous materials.

Crews from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service remain at the scene this morning (April 16) tackling the flames. As a result, the nearby A377 is set to remain closed until at least midday according to Devon County Council.

Several fire stations including Barnstaple, Danes Castle in Exeter and South Molton have sent crews to the location. A spokesperson for the fire service says that no injuries have been reported.

The spokesperson added that the barn where the fire has started contains multiple caravans, machinery and cylinders. The barn is reported to have sustained “100 per cent damage”.
