Jeff Brohm

Jeff Brohm is an American football coach and former player who is the head coach at Purdue University. He has also served as the head coach at Western Kentucky University. Prior to becoming a head coach, Brohm was an offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in the National Football League (NFL) for the San Francisco 49ers, Chicago Bears, and New Orleans Saints.

Brohm was born in Louisville, Kentucky, and played high school football at Trinity High School. He then played college football at the University of Louisville before transferring to Louisville’s football team. He played quarterback for the Cardinals from 1989 to 1993. Brohm began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Louisville in 1994. He then coached at the University of primary from 1995 to 1996 and at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 1997. In 1998, he returned to Louisville as the Cardinals’ quarterbacks coach. He was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at the University of Florida from 1999 to 2001.

From 2002 to 2003, Brohm served as the offensive coordinator for the Indianapolis Colts of the NFL. He then returned to the college ranks and was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at the University of Illinois from 2004 to 2005. Brohm then became the passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the Louisville Cardinals from 2006 to 2008. He was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at the University of Tennessee from 2009 to 2010.

In 2011, Brohm was hired as the head coach at Western Kentucky University. In his first season, he led the Hilltoppers to a 7–5 record. The following season, Brohm’s team went 8–4. In 2013, Western Kentucky went 8–4 again. In 2014, Brohm’s team went 12–2 and won the Conference USA Championship. The Hilltoppers then defeated Central Michigan in the Popeyes Bahamas Bowl.

In 2015, Brohm’s team went 11–3 and won the Conference USA Championship again. The Hilltoppers then defeated South Florida in the Miami Beach Bowl. After the 2015 season, Brohm was hired as the head coach at Purdue University.

In his first season at Purdue, Brohm’s team went 3–9. The following season, Brohm’s team went 6–6. In 2018, Brohm’s team went 7–6 and won the Foster Farms Bowl.

Early years

Brohm was born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky. He attended Trinity High School, where he played football and basketball. In football, he was a three-time All-State selection and led Trinity to state championships in 1988 and 1989. Brohm played college football at the University of Louisville. He was a four-year starter at quarterback and was named the Conference USA Player of the Year as a senior in 1993.

NFL career

Brohm was selected in the seventh round of the 1994 NFL Draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He played six seasons with the Buccaneers (1994–1999) and one with the San Diego Chargers (2000). He appeared in a total of 14 NFL games, and completed 37 of 77 pass attempts for 401 yards, one touchdown, and four interceptions.

Coaching career

Brohm began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at his alma mater, Louisville, in 2003. He served as an assistant coach at the University of Notre Dame (2004–2006), the University of Alabama at Birmingham (2007), Florida Atlantic University (2008–2009), and Illinois State University (2010). He was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at the University of Louisville from 2011 to 2014. In 2015, Brohm was hired as the head coach at Western Kentucky University. In his three seasons at Western Kentucky, he compiled a 30–10 record.

In November 2017, Brohm was hired as the head coach at Purdue University. In his first season at Purdue, he led the Boilermakers to a 6–7 record. In 2018, his second season at Purdue, Brohm’s team went 7–6 and won the Foster Farms Bowl. In 2019, his third season at Purdue, his team finished the regular season 5–7.

Brohm is known for his offensive mind. He runs a spread offense. Brohm has been successful as a head coach. He has a career record of 52–30 as a head coach.
