Investigation continues into fatal Oakland freeway shooting – The Mercury News

OAKLAND — The California Highway Patrol on Monday was continuing to investigate a car-to-car shooting early Saturday on Interstate 80 that left one man dead and two other men wounded.

All of the victims were subsequently found in Richmond, the CHP said. The name of the man killed has not yet been released.

The shooting happened about 2:50 a.m. Saturday in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 80 near the connector to Interstate 580, the CHP said. Investigators found that the occupants of two vehicles exchanged gunfire but why has not yet been determined.

The shooting left two men in one vehicle wounded and a man in the other vehicle with fatal wounds. No one else in that vehicle was injured.

Both vehicles drove to Richmond after the shooting. The man with fatal wounds was found at a residence and the two wounded men were found at a hospital.

The CHP has not yet said if the occupants of the vehicles knew each other or if any weapons were recovered. No arrests have been announced.

The other shooting happened about 10:30 p.m. Friday in the westbound lanes of Interstate 80 near Treasure Island.

A man in a vehicle was fired upon and suffered injuries from debris, the CHP said. A motive for the shooting is under investigation and no arrests have been announced.

The fatal shooting is the sixth homicide this year the CHP has investigated on Oakland freeways. Oakland police have investigated 111 homicides this year.
