HMD unveiled Horizonthe most powerful branded phone to date. Its design is reminiscent of the NokiaN9 and the company calls it Gen 2 repairability, allowing you to replace a cracked screen or failing battery in less than 10 minutes.
The Skyline sports a 6.5-inch OLED display with Full HD+ resolution and a refresh rate of up to 144Hz. It has a 50MP front-facing camera with autofocus inside a punch-hole.
The phone is powered by a Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 chipset and HMD has equipped the phone with either 8GB or 12GB of RAM and 128GB or 256GB of storage. There is also a microSD card slot for an additional 512GB of storage.
On the back, the Skyline features a triple camera setup: a 108MP main camera with OIS, a 13MP ultra-wide-angle sensor, and a 50MP 2x telephoto lens that offers up to 4x zoom. HMD has embraced AI technology with its AI Capture Fusion, which maximizes the details of the photos taken with it.
The Skyline’s back cover can be easily opened with a single screw, allowing for quick repairs of cracked screens, bent charging ports, or dead batteries using standard iFixit kits. iFixit will also provide replacement parts.
The battery itself is a 4,600mAh cell that supports 33W wired and 15W magnetic Qi2 wireless charging. The device includes a customizable button on the side for quick access to apps and features.
The phone runs on Android 14 and will receive 2 OS updates and 3 years of security patches. It also has a Detox mode, which lets you limit notifications and social media access in case things start to get overwhelming.
The HMD Skyline will cost €499 / $499 / £399, but it should be noted that there is no adapter in the box. HMD offers a 33W wall charger for £30 or a 30W dual-port adapter for £20 on its website.
Because of its ease of repair, users can also purchase parts directly from the manufacturer. The display costs $95, the battery cover costs $30, the battery itself costs $25, and the charging port costs $20. The first purchase must be accompanied by a repair kit, offered by iFixit, which costs an additional $5.
