“I would say I was probably very lucky,” Hodgkinson said.
“I think my only problem lately has been… one of those general problems that athletes and girls have: looking really muscular.”
She added that as an athlete, she accepts that her body may not be exactly how she wants it, but that it would help him on the track.
“Some days I’m really skinny,” she said. “I hate looking skinny because I feel like I look sick.”
Hodgkinson said she thinks other young female athletes feel uncomfortable being muscular, but that’s not a bad thing.
“I think muscularity is something that girls face in sports, whether it’s from people on the outside on the internet or people around you that they just have to deal with. It’s a good thing, it’s not a bad thing and it’s what helps you do really good things on the track.
“I think it’s completely normal. There’s a percentage of girls aged 17 and over who drop out of school because of their body image, which is quite sad.”
