The Delinquents Trailer

“I punch in every day… All that for what?” We all wonder this every day, right…? Mubi has revealed the official US trailer for an acclaimed Argentinian film titled The Delinquents, originally Los Delincuentes in Spanish. This premiered at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival earlier this year to rave reviews, and it’s set to open this fall across the world thanks to Mubi giving it a proper release. This slow burn heist film is about a couple of bankers in Argentina. Morán and Román are looking for freedom and adventure. One commits a robbery, discovering an alternative to his boring life, while the other hides money that doesn’t belong to him. Their destiny as new criminals will bring them together. It’s a story about how both having money and not having money can be a burden, and it’s nearly impossible to escape from the shadow of money and find true freedom. Starring Daniel Elías, Esteban Bigliardi, Margarita Molfino, Germán De Silva, Mariana Chaud, Gabriela Saidon, and Cecilia Rainero. I watched this at KVIFF and loved it, posting a glowing review with a 9/10 rating. What a fantastic, witty heist film – highly recommended from FS. Enjoy.

Here’s the official trailer (+ poster) for Rodrigo Moreno’s The Delinquents, direct from Mubi’s YouTube:

The Delinquents Poster

Morán (Daniel Eliás) is a bank employee in Buenos Aires who dreams up a risky plan to liberate himself and his co-worker Román (Esteban Bigliardi) from the shackles of working life: Morán will steal enough cash from the bank for their retirement if Román hides the money for him after he confesses then serves prison time; they’ll reunite, split the cash, and never have to work again. Leaving to the countryside to fulfill his side of the deal, the less adventurous Román finds himself transformed by Morán’s idyllic vision of economic liberation far from the rigors of urban life. But what is the true cost of freedom? From writer-director Rodrigo Moreno comes an existential probe into the work-life balance and what happens when it’s shattered and replaced with something radical and new. Combining sumptuous imagery & dry humor, Moreno finds universality & complexity in the eternal dilemma of forging our livelihood. More via Mubi.

The Delinquents, also known as Los Delincuentes in Spanish, is both written and directed by the acclaimed Argentinian filmmaker Rodrigo Moreno, director of many films including Bad Times, El Descanso, The Minder, A Mysterious World, Reimon, and the doc Una Ciudad de Provincia previously. It’s produced by Ezequiel Borovinsky. This initially premiered at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival in the Un Certain Regard section, and it also played at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival (read our review). Mubi will debut Moreno’s The Delinquents in select US theaters starting on October 18th, 2023 coming soon; and it is also opening on October 26th across Latin America, and October 27th in Canada via Mubi.
