A lapse in judgement forced a parting of ways between the Florida Gators and 2023 quarterback commit Markus Stokes on Sunday. The Ponte Vedra (Fla.) area prospect from Nease High School posted a video clip of himself signing a rap song with the use of the N-word which gathered views and pushback resulting in Florida dropping their scholarship offer.
Stokes committed to the Gators on July 7 after a successful junior season. Going against 7A Florida defenses in 2021, Stokes led his Panthers squad to a 9-4 record throwing for 2,672 yards with 22 touchdowns against nine interceptions while rushing for 496 yards posting six more rushing scores.
The senior season for the three-star QB was not as successful seeing the Panthers post a 2-8 record. Stokes was credited with 1,127 passing yards throwing eight interceptions against just seven touchdowns. On the ground, Stokes was still effective covering 406 yards with nine rushing touchdowns.
With four-star quarterback Jaden Rashada committing on Nov. 11, the error in judgement by Stokes made it easier to part ways.
Stokes was a one-time Penn State commit, April 8 to July 7, before Florida flipped him. The three-star QB is credited with 14 scholarship offers.
