Evgeni Malkin played in his 1,000th career game for the Pittsburgh Penguins on Sunday night, and he had a special guest announce the team’s starting lineup in the locker room.
His son, Nikita.
Malkin was clearly not expecting that, and his teammates were also super into the gesture by the Penguins’ coaching staff.
His teammates also had some fun with him in warmups, mocking his pre-game stretching routine.
Malkin’s special night did not end with pre-game feel good stories. He also had a strong game on the ice, scoring a goal and adding an assist in the Penguins’ 5-3 win over the Chicago Blackhawks to complete a perfect 3-0-0 road trip for the Penguins.
Malkin signed a new four-year contract extension with the Penguins this past offseason to all but guarantee he will finish his Hall of Fame career with the team.
Along with 1,000 games, he has recorded more than 1,000 points, won an MVP award, a scoring title, a Conn Smythe award as playoff MVP, played in four Stanley Cup Finals, won three Stanley Cups, and was even a Rookie Of The Year on top of that.
Pretty spectacular career unfolding for him.
