The episode focuses entirely on Belle and Tom’s story, exploring the events of four consecutive days as the break gradually worsens for Belle.

EmmerdaleSophie Roper’s producer recently explained: “The story that takes place in this beautiful cottage will be really hard-hitting and difficult at times.

“Tom isolates Belle a lot from her family, from her environment, from everything she knows and loves, which is unfortunately a typical trait of abusers and people who try to isolate their victim from her family.

“So it’s going to be a difficult drama, but a really important message and story that we want to continue to tell.”

Beyond the special episode, the action will return to Cain and Charity as they deal with their shocking discoveries and attempt to get firm answers.

Jeff Hordley, who plays Cain, recently told us: “I don’t think Cain really believed Charity’s suspicions about Tom until he arrived. Charity could sense there was trouble.

“If someone hurt his little sister, there’s no telling what Cain would do. It’s almost inevitable that there will be a time when Cain will get wind of what’s going on.

“It’s interesting to see that Cain wasn’t a popular character when he joined the team, but now they see him as a hero who can step in and save the day for others, in a not-so-nice way!”

Emma Atkins, who plays Charity, added: “It’s just an unpleasant sight at the cottage. Charity and Cain immediately fear for Belle’s safety, because why wouldn’t they?

“We know that Belle has gone to Wales and is now missing because there is no one in the house. Charity and Cain immediately assume that Belle is in real trouble.

“Working with Jeff again was just magical because I hadn’t worked with him in quite a while. We seem to have a natural chemistry when we get together because we know each other, we know our history and our characters work really well together.

“It’s nice that Cain and Charity aren’t a couple, but they get along well and are good in a crisis. They trust each other and I like that Cain listens to Charity.”

Longer term, Emmerdale The bosses have already confirmed that the story of Belle and Tom will run until the end of the year.
