Cristiano Ronaldo sends ‘fight’ message after returning to Manchester United training

Cristiano Ronaldo has vowed to ‘keep fighting’ as the Manchester United superstar prepares to return to action on Saturday afternoon. Having missed out against Leicester City due to illness, the Portugal captain is back training for the meeting with relegation-threatened Everton (12.30pm).

That comes as welcome news for interim manager Ralf Rangnick as United continue their top-four charge. Without the five-time Ballon d’Or winner, Bruno Fernandes was tasked with leading the line during the 1-1 draw last time out as Rangnick opted to leave struggling Marcus Rashford out of his starting XI.

Edinson Cavani (calf) was also missing for that game after suffering another injury setback. Ronaldo is expected to return to the line-up after stepping up his recovery.

Further selection issues will be addressed by Rangnick during his pre-match press conference on Friday afternoon, but Ronaldo has already given him the biggest boost possible. Since returning to Old Trafford last summer, Ronaldo has scored 18 goals in all competitions.

Since his last appearance for United, the 37-year-old helped Portugal qualify for the 2022 World Cup finals in Qatar and, on his most recent Premier League outing, scored a devastating hat-trick to gun down Tottenham as the battle for top- four intensifies. Three points separate four teams in that regard.

Addressing his 424million followers on social media platform Instagram, the United superstar uploaded a picture of him training alongside countryman Diogo Dalot. In that post, Ronaldo said: “Work hard, focus on the everyday goals, enjoy the moments with your friends. Great training session with my boy Dalot! Keep fighting.”
