Boy, 13, stabbed in the back by older teenager in Huddersfield

Police are investigating after a 13-year-old boy was stabbed by an older teenager in Deighton last night (Sunday, March 20).

Just after 6.20pm, police were called to Riddings Close, Huddersfield, and found the boy with his mother. He had suffered a 2cm stab wound to his lower back and was given medical treatment, including three stitches to his wound.

The attack took place in Bradley Boulevard and he had managed to walk home after being attacked. West Yorkshire Police say it is not believed to be gang-related and the suspect was known to his victim. A 15-year-old boy has been arrested.

In a briefing note for Kirklees councilors, police said: “Officers have secured the scene and commenced inquiries to establish the full facts. At present, it is not believed that there is any risk to the wider community.

“NPT officers will be maintaining the scene and reassurance patrols are being organized in the area. A further update will be provided by NPT as soon as more facts are known.”

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “At 6.23pm yesterday (Sunday) police were called by the ambulance service to report an injured male. A scene was established in Brackenhall Road, Huddersfield, while the male was taken to hospital for further treatment .

“His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. Following inquiries, a 15-year-old male was arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent. He remains in custody at this time and inquiries are continuing.
