Austin ISD to limit the capacity of indoor athletic events, games

AUSTIN (KXAN) – The Austin Independent School District is limiting capacity for indoor athletic events and requiring masks for anyone not participating in athletic activity, the district said in a statement Tuesday.

Two people per. players will be allowed to participate in games and activities, AISD said in response to Austin-Travis County moving back to step 5 of their COVID-19 risk-based guidelines.

Athletes are required to wear masks on the sidelines or when not playing in the game. In addition, student-athletes are expected to be screened for symptoms by practice, the AISD said.

The district says college, junior and freshman teams must train separately and access to locker rooms will be limited. Schools are expected to shift their players as they walk in and out of the locker room.

The AISD states that anyone who shows COVID-19 symptoms should not participate in any form of school activity.
