Another work by Botticelli is coming to market

A connection between Botticelli and the buses, unknown to art history, has emerged in the art market.

You wait forever, and then two come.

One of the last major masterpieces of the Renaissance master will highlight Sotheby’s annual Masters Week sale series in New York later this month.

The man of sorrows estimated to earn more than $ 40 million (35.4 million euros).

It is a recent work from a time when the artist was heavily influenced by the fanatical shingles Dominican brother Girolamo Savonarola.

The most characteristic features are the frontal presentation of the astonishingly modern human representation of the resurrected Christ and a halo of angels holding the instruments of passion.

Works by Botticelli are extremely rare. In January 2021, Sotheby’s sold Sandro Botticelli’s Portrait of a young man holding a round section for $ 92.2 million (€ 81.78 million). It was the most valuable Old Master painting ever sold at auction.

Unfortunately, a free pass on this occasion is out of the question.
