Aeroflow Health, a health tech company, last week announced a new diabetes management program, which aims to improve adherence, outcomes and care coordination for health plan members.
Asheville, North Carolina-based Aeroflow Health was founded in 2001 and offers an array of medical devices covered by insurance. The company has four lines: Aeroflow Breastpumps, Aeroflow Diabetes, Aeroflow Sleep and Aeroflow Urology. In addition to medical devices, it provides education and consultations. The company has partnerships with more than 1,000 insurance plans and serves more than 1.4 million patients annually.
Through the new diabetes program, patients gain access to educational content on how to manage their condition, including medication adherence, lifestyle modifications and glucose monitoring strategies. They can also use a new AI-powered digital health tool that syncs with continuous glucose monitoring data. This allows patients to receive personalized insights on their health, AI-driven coaching and communication with their provider.
In addition, patients can receive medical nutrition therapy — behavioral health support from registered dietitians to help them create meal plans and build healthy habits. Patients can also participate in interactive classes on diabetes management, as well as webinars covering healthy cooking and physical activity recommendations. Through an online storefront, patients can check their benefits and access products and services like continuous glucose monitors and blood pressure monitors.
Aeroflow’s health plan partners, meanwhile, receive data on patient outcomes and engagement, which allows them to “enable strategic decision-making and engage with personalized approaches to support patient well-being,” said Casey Hite, CEO of Aeroflow Health.
“Health plans can gain improved quality of care that reflect higher satisfaction scores by patients who are more engaged and supported in their health journeys,” Hite said in an email.
The launch of the program comes at a time when about 38.4 million Americans, or 11.6% of the population, have diabetes, according to the American Diabetes Association. About 2 million Americans have type 1 diabetes, including 304,000 children and adolescents.
“These numbers show the staggering need in quality care and broader access to care to allow these patients to lead healthy, fulfilling lives,” Hite said. “Aeroflow’s goal with the launch of this program is to help patients understand and better manage their diabetes. … By aligning ourselves with advanced digital tools, we’re continuing our mission to deliver a holistic and patient-centered approach to diabetes care.”
To measure the success of the new diabetes program, Aeroflow Health will be tracking patient health outcomes, including A1C reductions, overall weight loss and blood pressure measures, Hite added. The company also aims to gain more health plan partners with the launch of the program.
Several other companies also offer diabetes management programs for health plan members, including Omada Health, Virta Health and Teladoc Health.
