Manchester United are starting to switch their focus to full-back additions with two targets in mind, while Arsenal’s Raphinha interest prompts a reaction – both in all the latest Euro Paper Talk.
MAN UTD EYE FULL-BACK ADDITIONS
Manchester United have added left-back Nicolas Tagliafico to their list of admired Ajax stars amid an update over a potential Tyrell Malacia move, reports have claimed.
United have had a relatively slow start to the summer transfer window, with the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City above them all making statement signings. The Red Devils could soon join them on that front by adding Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong to their ranks.
However, in a summer of upheaval for United and new manager Erik ten Hag, the Dutchman has interest in deals for multiple positions.
His former club Ajax are his big transfer focus and according to ADleft-back Tagliafico is now on the Old Trafford club’s radar.
The Argentina international is the fourth player to have had links with a move to Man Utd. Center-backs Lisandro Martinez and Jurrien Timber, as well as Brazilian forward Antony, are all admired by Ten Hag.
United have Luke Shaw and Alex Telles at left-back, but neither hit their true heights last season. As such, transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano has told Caught Offside that the Red Devils are paying “a lot of attention to full-backs as something could be done in those positions”.
And another left-back target – Feyenoord’s Netherlands international Malacia – is still on the market despite serious interest from Lyon.
According to The Telegraphthe French club are struggling to match Feyenoord’s demand of a guaranteed € 15million (£ 13million) fee.
After ‘numerous proposals’, they have accepted that they can only get close to Feyenoord’s demands through an extensive bonuses package.
United are ‘seriously interested’ in Malaciabut need to get the De Jong deal over the line first.
De Jong remains Man Utd‘s transfer priority as it stands. However, with talks progressing well with Barcelona and the deal edging towards completion, full-back additions could become a bigger focus for Ten Hag and United football director John Murtough.
